Abstract.DarkGlow v2 by thibaut28 Abstract.DarkGlow v2 by thibaut28
!!! Please change the extension of the archive from .gz to .tar.gz in order to untar it ;) !!!

This theme is an homage to Austria and Slovenia (Corinthia) for their beautiful countries

First of all I'd like to thank :iconizobalax: for his contribution to this pack by creating the Bmpanel Theme, and being a good beta tester ! ;)

The last born of the Abstract Family :D. I wanted to make something rather modern this time, using rich colors, contrast, shadows and light effects. And that's the result...

It includes :

- A GTK2+ Theme ( Complete rework ) :iconcheerplz:
- A XfWM4 Theme ( Old version )
- A PekWM Theme ( Old version )
- A Bmpanel Theme ( Old version )
- An Emerald Theme ( New ) :iconcheerplz:

Comments and critics are welcome as always ;)

This is a beautiful theme and looks very professional. I love the panel and the lighting effects. The panel is often neglected in Gnome themes but here it's perfect...I'll have to install Ubuntu for this!

This looks awesome to say the least. I'm new to the world of linux and have a fresh installation of Ubuntu 8.10. What do I need to get this theme going on it? Sorry about the noob question. =)

First, thanks for the kind words ;)

The theme is pixmap based, so you shouldn't need anything more than the engine which are already installed. For the window decoration, you need to install compiz-fusion and emerald theme manager, which you can find in synaptic ;)

About installation, all you need to do, is opening the appearance menu in the preferences menu. Then drag and drop the archive named Abstract-DarkGlow.tar.gz in the window. It should popup a message saying the theme has been installed successfully. Then all you have to do is click on the customize (well, if not should be close. I'm translating from french) button and select the theme in the list.
Now to install the emerald theme, just open up emerald theme manager, should be in the preferences menu. Then from there import the Abstract-DarkGlow.emerald file and that should work ;).

If you got further questions, just ask :)

Wow, was this based on Illuminate by code2? Some parts of it look really similar. But not that I'm calling it a copy or anything - it definitely has some very different elements and I love yours too, using it now! :)

All my work is influenced by everyday's environment little details ;) Sometimes I start working on something randomly, and I notice, it just looks like something I saw earlier in the day. Truth is when I see something, I try to analyse it and see if I can reproduce it after. I really appreciate code2's artwork, and especially the work he made for the KDE environment [link] and [link]
This is how I started using GIMP :D So when you ask me if it's based on Illuminate, well somehow this is linked :) I wanted to create a theme giving the same kind of atmosphere. Well I'm sure you see what I mean ;) I'm really glad you're using it, and thanks a lot for your support :D !

I couldn't get the themes to work properly (I couldn't install this theme and I couldn't get the Minimum suite to display properly: gnome gave me a strange lack-of-correct-engine error).

I can ensure you the DarkGlow one works fine and not only on my computer. I've tried it on several linux installation already, and several people tested it for me also ... ;) In fact DarkGlow and Minimum use basically the same gtkrc file. So if you get one working, the other should :) I'm checking the gtkrc file and in fact you need :

- pixmap engine
- mist engine

Which Linux distribution are you using ?
I'm really sorry this isn't working... :(

I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid with compiz (although gtk themes still work). I'll take a gander at those engines perhaps and see if I can install them somehow?
I couldn't get either to work. The abstractdarkglow one wasn't recognised as a theme file I don't think...

Maybe it's more simple than that... All my themes are not "drag'n drop" installable, because they often contain several components. The Darkglow one has several folders for example :

- the GTK one with xfce4 decoration
- the Bmpanel theme
- the PekWM theme

So if you want to install it through the gnome-control-center you have to take the folder containing only the GTK theme and Xfce4 deco and tar.gz it using file-roller... :)

Otherwise I don't quite see :(

None of it seemed to work.
I guess I'll have to resign myself to sticking with Human Clearlooks.
I just get an "error extracting theme" message...

Well we can try one last thing ;) Just extract the folder. Then copy directly the folder containing the gtk2 and xfce4 themes to /home/user/.themes/ . Really it should work, I always install this way :D

Glad you like it :D Sadly I don't have enough power to do this... I though about making a Metacity theme so that gnome users could really use it, but it doesn't allow custom roundness so this would not be an exact copy :(

You have to install pekwm first, which is a window manager or you can use the xfce desktop. You should find the package easily in synaptic. Then all you have to do is move the Darkglow folder containing only the pekwm theme files in your ~/.pekwm/themes folder. Then just right-click and in the menu browse to Pekwm -> Themes -> Darkglow. Move the Darkglow containing the gtk2 and xfce theme inside the ~/.themes folder. And apply using the control center application. In pekwm by default there is no panel, so you can load xfce-panel or gnome-panel or bmpanel, etc...
